Warts
Smaller growths upon skin the effect of a virus, usually the human papillomavirus (HPV). Usually, they occur on the sole of the feet and are referred to as plantar warts. If multiple warts form in a single area, they are referred to as mosaic warts.
Warts are benign skin tumors that are infected by a virus. The virus attacks the skin through direct contact, where they enter the foot through tiny cuts or abrasions. They reside in the outer layer of the skin and may not be seen for weeks or months after infection. Due to pressure on the foot, the wart may press inwards in to the skin, causing an outer layer to hard skin to form over.
Warts are contagious and are usually spread to contact in locations where the virus is present. Moist areas such as showers or swimming pools are ideal locations where the infection survives. Also, because the virus can survive many months and not using a host, it can remain contagious for long periods of time.
Heel Pain
Heel pain is definitely an common complaint that affects the front heel, back heel, or both. Patients with this problem tend to think it’s normal or just sore and continue with their normal activities. Neglecting it only causes added stress to the area of discomfort, which can lead to chronic and more severe issues.
Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
A painful foot symptom in which the Posterior Tibial Nerve at the inner ankle is compressed and entrapped as it travels through the tarsal tunnel area. Commonly, it occurs in a flat foot or a foot in which the arch flattens excessively while walking. Over time, this will cause the nerve to stretch or become compressed in the area of the tarsal tunnel. In the tunnel, the nerve splits into three different paths.
Calcaneal nerve is constantly on the the heel
Medial plantar nerve will continue to the inner bottom side of the foot
A lateral plantar nerve continues to the outer bottom side belonging to the foot.
Peripheral Neuropathy
Commonly referred to peripheral nerve disease, it is deterioration to the nerves of the peripheral nervous system, which ends in the feet. This, in turn, leads to communication problems between the spine as well as associated muscles, bone and tissue of the lower extremity. Approximately 15 million individuals suffer from peripheral neuropathy.
Every individual has nerves, arteries and veins that run simultaneous to one another throughout the body, including the feet. Encircling these vascular bundles are tunnels that keep the bundles in an organized fashion. These tunnels are of a certain size that usually does not change in growth, as they are made of fibrous sheaths that cross horizontally to the bundle. It is common to see ligaments and other fibrous tissues cross the bundles as well.
Neuropathy occurs when something has caused the nerves to deteriorate or become damage in these canals. The nerves will be forced to press up against these canals causing the symptoms one sees in neuropathy. A part of the nerve could be herniated, or “pushed through” the fibrous sheaths making up the canals. There are a variety of things the nerves could do in order for the symptoms to be present including compression, swelling, pinches, ligament touching, or irregular nerve gliding due to interaction with fibrous sheet.
Ingrown Toenail
A nail disease where the toenail grows into the skin of your toes. The side of your nail (nail borders) will curl down and dig into the skin.
If an ingrown nail causes a break into the skin, bacteria may enter and cause infection to the area, which is often marked by drainage and a foul odor. Even if a nail does not break into the skin, leaving it untreated could eventually lead to an infection as well
Hammertoes
A deformity of the joints found in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th toe causing a buckling and permanent bending of those toes. The toe joints usually curl downward due to a muscle imbalance or tight tendons in your toes, resembling a hammer. Hammertoes vary in severity and in the number of joints and toes involved.
